They\u2019re also less likely to be depressed, anxious, lonely, envious, neurotic, or sick.<\/p><p>In one study, a group of participants were asked to name five things they were grateful for every day, while another group was asked to list five things that annoyed them. Those expressing gratitude were not only happier and more optimistic; they reported fewer physical symptoms (such as headache, cough, nausea, or acne).<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>Let\u2019s take a deeper look at what happiness is, and where we derive it<\/strong>.<\/p><p>Firstly, keep in mind that happiness is subjective from one individual to another. The idea or installation of happiness within a person\u2019s mind and life will be different from person to person. The important objective here is to\u00a0<em>always clarify<\/em>\u00a0and bring more awareness to what you believe about happiness: what it\u00a0<u>means<\/u>\u00a0and how it\u00a0<u>feels<\/u>\u00a0to\u00a0<em>you<\/em>.<\/p><p>It\u2019s a\u00a0well-known fact\u00a0that many people\u00a0place conditions on their happiness where certain expectations must be met before happiness can be experienced.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>Do any of these resonate with you?<\/strong><\/p><ul><li><em>When I have enough money, I will be happy<\/em><\/li><li><em>When I move into a bigger house, I will be happy<\/em><\/li><li><em>When I get a better job,\u00a0<\/em><\/li><li><em>When I lose\u00a0this extra weight,<\/em><\/li><li><em>When I\u2019m in a relationship, then I\u2019ll be happy<\/em><\/li><li><em>When my life is \u2018perfect\u2019 I\u2019ll be happy\u2026<\/em><\/li><\/ul><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Even though happiness means different things to different people, what is generally agreed upon is that happiness doesn\u2019t \u2018just happen\u2019.\u00a0The generally accepted conclusion is that people need to have a group of basic needs met, in order to experience any degree of happiness.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>Is happiness a state of mind, or is it dependent on external forces?<\/strong><\/p><p>Certain\u00a0circumstances are required to initiate and maintain happiness. These circumstances are largely dependent upon how aware of your own individual needs you are and whether you\u2019re choosing experiences that both tend to and nourish those needs on a regular basis.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>Research has identified several connections with happiness, such as:<\/strong><\/p><ul><li>Religious involvement<\/li><li>Parenthood<\/li><li>Marital status<\/li><li>Age<\/li><li>Income<\/li><li>Interaction with other happy people<\/li><\/ul><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>When we focus on the problem (why we believe we can\u2019t be happy), we merely get sucked further into the stress of expectations; we feel overwhelmed, angry, helpless, and desperate \u2013 far from the emotions we\u2019d rather be feeling.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-7a805f88 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"7a805f88\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-3c8df186\" data-id=\"3c8df186\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-69551799 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"69551799\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h5><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; background-color: var(--ast-global-color-5); color: var(--ast-global-color-3);\">\u00a0<\/span><strong>Here\u2019s an honest truth: We can only mask our feelings for so long in bad habits, unhealthy addictions, and destructive or toxic relationships. There will come a point when we no longer wish to live that way, or we simply can\u2019t.<\/strong><\/h5>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-77094e2e elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"77094e2e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Being happier will almost always be an emotional driver towards wanting to make change. A great place to start is by asking yourself to get clear about and write down your happiness\u00a0<em>needs<\/em>.
