We MUST replace the old pattern with a new one that we then actively and consciously program in.<\/strong><\/h5>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-168d9616 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"168d9616\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>\u00a0<\/p><p>I recommend going through your list of negative and unhelpful self-talk and writing a counter statement to reframe it.<\/p><p><strong>For example, if you isolate an automatic negative thought such as:<\/strong><\/p><p><em>\u201cI\u2019m such an idiot, why did I do that?!\u201d<\/em><\/p><p><strong>Then cross this negative self-talk statement out and replace it with a counter statement to reframe the situation, such as:<\/strong><\/p><p><em>\u201cEvery mistake is an opportunity for me to learn and grow. I\u2019m doing the best I can right now.\u201d<\/em><\/p><p>This new reframe will serve to\u00a0<em>replace<\/em>\u00a0the old pattern whenever you notice it coming up in your thinking. This deliberate mindful action is what helps to create new neural pathways in your brain.<\/p><p>Once you become aware of your self-talk, it\u2019s hard not to notice those limiting beliefs that you\u2019re oh so aware of and want to shift.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><h5>2.\u00a0Do-It-Yourself Recording<\/h5><p>You can make a recording of yourself repeating positive reframes and focus reminders and play it as you get ready in the morning, drive to\/from work, or exercise. Talk in a calm, encouraging voice, maybe with your favourite music in the background, and voila!\u2026 you have a tailor-made recording to counter your negative thought loops.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><h5>3.\u00a0Post-It Notes<\/h5><p>Write reframes on post-its and place them around your home and office (on the fridge, bathroom mirror, your computer &amp; desk where you\u2019ll see them) to give yourself proactive reminders throughout the day.
